Melody Robine est diplômée de Sciences Po Paris (spécialité affaires publiques) et d’un master en histoire de l'art contemporain de Sorbonne Université, pour lequel elle a travaillé sur la réappropriation de l'espace urbain et de l'héritage socialiste par l’art contemporain en Bulgarie. Elle est actuellement doctorante à l'École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) et à Sorbonne Université. Elle a par le passé travaillé dans diverses institutions culturelles françaises (ministère de la Culture, Villa Médicis à Rome) et galerie d'art (Galerie Templon) et a effectué des summer schools et des résidences de recherche à l'université de Trieste ainsi qu’à l'université Primorska de Koper.

Son doctorat porte sur le rôle des artistes dans la redéfinition d’un l'espace urbain politisé dans l’(ex-)République fédérale socialiste de Yougoslavie (RFSY) entre 1980 et 2008. Basée sur une analyse des influences exercées par l'espace urbain - conçu comme témoin de la construction d'une nation - sur la société civile et son corps social, cette recherche se concentre sur les expériences artistiques qui impliquent activement le spectateur et cherchent à forger une nouvelle relation entre ce dernier et la ville dans laquelle il évolue. Elle se concentre sur les artistes et les mouvements artistiques de la Yougoslavie qui ont ancré leur production dans l'espace urbain - perçu comme le cœur des constructions culturelles, politiques et mémorielles, sur la base de trois études de cas de villes aux environnements urbains, sociaux, religieux et culturels divergents : Zagreb, Sarajevo et Prishtina. À travers ce projet de recherche, elle étudie comment ces artistes ont accompagné et questionné ces bouleversements, en se basant sur leurs pratiques mêlant intérêt pour l'architecture et l'espace urbain avec des dimensions participatives et installatives. Melody Robine s’intéresse ainsi à l'évolution des modes d’interaction entre la ville et ses habitants par le prisme de ces "artistes de la transformation", et analyse à travers eux l'émergence d'un nouveau rapport à l'espace urbain.

Melody Robine received a Master's degree in Political Science with a specialization in Public Affairs from the University of Sciences Po (Paris, France) and a Master's degree in contemporary art History from Sorbonne Université - Paris IV (Paris, France), for which she worked on the reappropriation of the urban space and the socialist heritage by contemporary artists in Bulgaria, and is now a PhD candidate at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) and Sorbonne Université. She worked in various French cultural institutions (Ministry of Culture, Villa Medici in Rome) and art galleries (Galerie Templon) and has carried out summer schools and research residencies at the University of Trieste and Primorska University in Koper.

Her PhD examines the role of artists in the redefinition of politicized urban space in the (former) Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY) between 1980 and 2008. Based on an analysis of the influences exerted by urban space - conceived as a witness to the construction of a nation - on civil society and its social body, this research focuses on artistic experiments that actively involve the spectator and seek to forge a new relationship between the latter and the city in which he or she evolves. It focuses on artists and artistic movements from the SFRY who have anchored their production in urban space - perceived as the heart of cultural, political and memorial constructions, on the basis of three case studies of cities with divergent urban, social, religious and cultural environments: Zagreb, Sarajevo and Prishtina. Through this research project, she studies how these artists accompanied and questioned these upheavals, based on their practices which combine an interest in architecture and urban space with participatory and spacial dimensions. Melody Robine explores the changing modes of interaction between the city and its inhabitants through the prism of these "artists of transformation", and analyzes through them the emergence of a new relationship with urban space.
