Despina Magkanari est post-doctorante Gerda Henkel pour l'histoire des savoirs et l'histoire des sciences au Centre interdisciplinaire de recherche sur les Lumières en Europe (IZEA) – Université Martin-Luther Halle-Wittenberg. Elle a été post-doctorante à l'Université Libre de Berlin (Institut Friedrich Meinecke, Histoire des temps modernes) dans le cadre d'un programme conjoint entre le FUB et l'Université d'État de Saint-Pétersbourg. Titulaire d'un doctorat en histoire et civilisations de l’EHESS (2019), après un parcours universitaire en sociologie et histoire, elle étudie l'histoire de la turcologie et des études orientales. Sa thèse intitulé « Connexions interculturelles et construction des savoirs à l'époque moderne : l'Europe, l'Asie et l'émergence des savoirs turcologiques aux XVIIe- XVIIIe siècles », explore notamment les circulations transnationales et l'impact des rencontres interculturelles, tout en analysant les pratiques savantes d'un point de vue socio-culturelle. Ses recherches embrassent  l'histoire des savoirs dans un contexte global, les débats intellectuels et historiographiques de l'époque moderne et contemporaine, ainsi que l'histoire des champs disciplinaires, en particulier celle des aires culturelles.

Despina Magkanari is a Gerda Henkel Postdoctoral Research Fellow for the History of Knowledge and the History of Science atthe Interdisciplinary Centre for European Enlightenment Studies (IZEA) – Martin-Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. Previously, she held a postdoctoral research position at Freie Universität Berlin (Friedrich-Meinecke-Institut, Geschichte der Frühen Neuzeit) as part of a Joint Postdoctoral Fellowship Program between FUB and St. Petersburg State University. With adoctorate in history and civilizations from the EHESS (2019), she has a background in sociology and history. Her research focuses on the history of Turkology and the history of Oriental studies, with her PhD dissertation titled “Cross-cultural Connections and Knowledge Production in the early modern era: Europe, Asia and the emergence of Turkological Knowledge in the 17th and 18th centuries”. Her work emphasizes transnational circulations and the impact of cross-cultural encounters, alongside socio-cultural analysis of scholarly practices. Her interests include knowledge production in global and cross-cultural contexts, intellectual and historiographical debates in the modern and contemporary period, and the history of disciplinary fields,  particularly Area Studies.
