Présentation / Introduction

Despina Magkanari est post-doctorante à l'Université Libre de Berlin (Institut Friedrich Meinecke, Histoire des temps modernes) et à l'Université d'État de Saint-Pétersbourg (Faculté d'études asiatiques et africaines). Docteure en histoire et civilisations de l’EHESS (2019) après un parcours universitaire mené en sociologie et histoire, elle étudie l'histoire de la turcologie et des études orientales. Sa thèse s'intitule « Connexions interculturelles et construction des savoirs à l'époque moderne : l'Europe, l'Asie et l'émergence des savoirs turcologiques aux XVIIe- XVIIIe siècles ». Ses recherches mettent un accent particulier sur l'étude des circulations transnationales et l'impact des rencontres interculturelles, ainsi que sur l'analyse socio-culturelle des pratiques savantes. Ses intérêts portent sur l'histoire des savoirs dans un contexte global, sur les débats intellectuels et historiographiques de l'époque moderne et contemporaine et sur l'histoire des champs disciplinaires, en particulier celle des aires culturelles.

Despina Magkanari is a postdoctoral fellow at Freie Universität Berlin (Friedrich-Meinecke-Institut, Geschichte der Frühen Neuzeit) and at St. Petersburg State University (Faculty of Asian and African Studies). A doctor in history and civilizations from the EHESS (2019), after a university course in sociology and history, she works on the history of Turkology and oriental studies. Her PhD dissertation is entitled “Cross-cultural Connections and Knowledge Production in early modern era: Europe, Asia and the emergence of Turkological Knowledge in the 17th and 18th centuries”. Her research places particular emphasis on the study of transnational circulations and on the impact of cross-cultural encounters, all along with the socio-cultural analysis of scholarly practices. Her interests revolve around knowledge production in a global and cross-cultural context, intellectual and historiographical debates in the modern and contemporary period, and the history of disciplinary fields, in particular that of Area Studies.
