Andreas GUIDI est maître de conférences en histoire à l’INALCO et membre associé du CETOBaC. Ses recherches portent sur les sociétés impériales et post-impériales en Europe du Sud-Est, à savoir les interactions entre l’Italie et les mondes ottoman et hambourgeois. Son projet de recherche actuel interroge la transformation territoriale de la Méditerranée au XXe siècle à travers le prisme des trafics illicites.

Je suis un historien contemporanéiste avec un intérêt particulier pour la fin du XIXe et le début du XXe siècle. Mes recherches portent sur les contacts entre des aires tels que l’Europe du Sud-Est, la Méditerranée, l’espace ottoman et l’Italie.
Dans mon travail de thèse rédigé en cotutelle entre l’EHESS et l’université Humboldt de Berlin, j’ai analysé la transformation politique et sociale d’une province ottomane à une colonie de l’Italie fasciste. En prenant comme prisme la ville de Rhodes, ma thèse s’est concentrée sur l’impact de cette transformation sur les rapports entre les générations et les représentations de la jeunesse. Mon étude vise à proposer une histoire connectée des empires en Méditerranée à l’époque contemporaine, à penser l’empire fasciste dans sa dimension post-ottomane. L’approche générationnelle offre en outre un cadre pour investiguer les rapports entre l’État, les différentes institutions communautaires, et les familles locales.
Mon projet actuel interroge l’histoire de la contrebande en Méditerranée contemporaine. Il se concentre sur l’Europe du Sud-Est comme espace de passage pour des différentes formes de trafic (armes, stupéfiants, personnes). Dans ce projet, j’explore la manière dont la contrebande est définie, pratiquée et combattue. Je m’intéresse surtout aux transformations de l’espace (cultivation, production, commerce et consommation des produits illicites), à l’internationalisation du droit et des dispositifs de surveillance des trafics, ainsi qu’aux trajectoires transnationales des hommes et des femmes impliquées dans les trafics.
I am interested in contemporary history with a strong interest for the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. My research focuses on the contacts between areassuch as Southeast Europe, the Mediterranean, the Ottoman space and Italy.
In my dissertation, written within a joint supervision at the EHESS and the Humboldt University of Berlin, I analyzed the political and social transformation of an Ottoman province into a colony of Fascist Italy. Taking the city of Rhodes as a prism, my dissertation focused on the impact of this transformation on intergenerational relations and representations of youth. My study proposes a connected history of empires in the modern Mediterranean by framing the fascist empire in its post-Ottoman dimension. The generational approach also allowed me to investigate the relationships between the state, the various communal institutions, and local families.
My current project interrogates the history of smuggling in the modern Mediterranean. It focuses on Southeast Europe as a space of transit for different forms of trafficking (arms, drugs, people). In this project, I explore how smuggling is defined, practiced and tackled. I am especially interested in the transformations of space (in terms of the cultivation, production, trade and consumption of illicit products), in the internationalization of law and surveillance mechanisms, as well as in the transnational trajectories of the men and women involved in trafficking.
